Be the “studio audience” for Jewel Theatre Company’s version of Orson Welles’ live radio drama of an adaptation of The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. Watch some of Jewel Theatre’s favorite actors, all voicing multiple roles, and a foley sound artist bring this iconic radio drama to life, as it was first presented on the radio 87 years ago as a Halloween episode on October 30, 1938.
The episode was directed and narrated by Orson Welles who went on the air as himself to introduce the setting of the play, however, many people tuned into the program several minutes after the start and missed that introduction. The official sounding reports and interrupted bulletins announcing the Martian’s attack on Earth apparently confused many listeners, causing some to run out of their homes screaming, while others packed up their cars and fled. We invite you to sit in the theatre as our studio audience and get carried away with this terrifying story.
